IDA VITALE

He was born in Montevideo on November 2, 1923. He studied Humanities and had José Bergamín as his teacher. Juan Ramón Jiménez included it in a presentation of young poets in Buenos Aires. She worked as a literature teacher until 1973. She was a contributor to the weekly Marcha; between 1962 and 1964 she directed the literary page of the newspaper Época. She was co-director of the magazine Clinamen, she integrated the direction of the magazine Maldoror. She had to go into exile in 1974 because of the bloody dictatorship in Uruguay, there she came into contact with Octavio Paz and was part of the advisory committee of the magazine Vuelta, as well as participating in the founding of the weekly Uno más Uno. Considered a member of the Generación del 45 with other writers such as Mario Benedetti, Juan Carlos Onetti, Carlos Maggi or Idea Vilariño. From 1989 to 2017 she lived in Austin, Texas along with her husband, also the poet Enrique Fierro, she returned to Uruguay in 2017.
